Coffee with Chloe’s mom – June 29th edition

29th June 2015

Hello, we hope everyone had a great weekend! We had a great time as we were busy celebrating Chloe‘s 1st birthday yesterday! Lots of delicious cake was eaten! Here’s what’s on my mind this week:

Daycare transition has been tougher than I thought it would be. I don’t think I stopped crying during her first day at the center. Who knows how I’ll be during her first full day there? Most likely an emotional mess.

What I’m currently coveting
A new work wardrobe for myself. I don’t think hot pink Old Navy t-shirts and wunder-unders from Lululemon are going to cut it at work 🙂

What I’m loving
Chatbooks has been a great and expensive way to turn my Instagram photos into real-life photo books. A new book is printed each time you reach 60 photos. Is kind of like the modern-day baby book.

What’s headed to the recycling bin?
This week’s winner is our most expensive sippy cup. It worked well for a while but now seems to leak everywhere. Grrr. Anyone else had this issue?

What I read on the Internet this week that was kind of cool
I can definitely relate to a number of these awkward parenting moments, but #2 in particular struck a chord with me.

What Chloe’s eating?
Jamie Oliver’s one-cup pancakes are super easy to make (even for those of us that can’t make pancakes to save their lives!).

Books, books, books
Chloe will dig through her box of books until she finds Barbara Reid’s Sing a Song of Mother Goose. She loves the illustrations! Mom has also started to read again this week and is loving It’s What I Do: A Photographer’s Life of Love and War by Lynsey Addario.

Chloe’s jam of the week
Leather Jacket by Arkells. All I can think about when I hear this song is who uses a pay phone in 2015?

What to do if you happen to be in Toronto with kids
Make a stop at McEwans for some yummy eats and then head down Lawrence to Edwards Gardens for a lovely gourmet picnic.

If my husband and I had a night out this week
I would be eating grilled sicilian eggplant parmigiana and drinking a vodka soda at Five Doors North. My other half, on the other hand, would probably be devouring something more on the meat side of things.

Busy moms need quick solutions
Did you know that Sephora offers makeovers? A friend of mine recently went in and asked for their suggestions on how to create a 5-minute make-up look. Perfect for busy moms. I need to do this! New make-up always makes me feel better 🙂

Rant of the week
I wish someone had warned me that I wouldn’t be taxed enough on maternity leave. I was expecting a big fat refund from CRA. I was shocked to discover I owe. Big time.

And just because…
I’ve been thinking a lot about following my own dreams.

Coffee with Chloe’s mom – June 21, 2015 edition

21st June 2015

Chloeinlake

Here’s what is new with us this week…

What’s on mom’s mind this week?
In a nutshell, going back to work. I’ve done my best to put it out of my mind and enjoy the time I have left with Chloe, but sadly I can’t ignore the fact that I start work soon. The labels have arrived and the daycare transition begins at the end of the week. I’m sad about leaving her, worried about how it will all work out for her (and me!) and kind of scared that I won’t know how to do my job anymore.

What I’m currently coveting
I saw this toy at our local children’s shoe store and fell in love. It has lots of fun things to investigate on it especially for a standing babe.

What we’re loving
The JJ Cole outdoor blanket is awesome. We take it everywhere these days and it is perfect for summer picnics. I’m actually kind of wondering why I never bought one of these before I had a child. Oh wait, I know. I used to be able to eat out in restaurants 😉

What’s headed to the recycling bin
Any peekaboo type books right now. Basically Chloe just rips the peekaboo covers off the books/tries to eat them. Maybe we’ll revisit when she’s older.

What I read on the Internet this week that was kind of cool
I loved this photo series of a mom capturing her daughters taking on the world. Pure love and celebration.

What Chloe’s eating
Macaroni and cheese with hidden carrot puree inside. I steam and puree 1 cup of carrots. Blend that up with ½ cup of milk and a handful of grated cheddar cheese. Mix with your pasta of choice. We’ve been using rotini.

Books, books and books
That’s not my penguin has lots of different textures to touch which appeals to Chloe at the moment!

Chloe’s jam of the week
Coolkids by Echosmith makes her bounce up and down. Guess she wants to be one of the cool kids? 🙂

Busy moms need quick solutions
Barre3 online workouts are great for those of us low on time to workout. They even have 10 minute workouts which are great when you have a baby who refuses to nap at home.

What to do if you happen to be in Toronto with kids
Head to the Danforth, grab takeout Pizzeria Libretto ($15 lunch special includes starter, pizza and dessert) and have a picnic at Withrow Park. There’s a great children’s playground there as well. Fun for moms and babies!

If my husband and I had a night out this week
I’d be eating the tuna dish at Zee Grill and he’d be having oysters. All washed down with some wine of course.

Rant of the week
Why open a children’s store/business and then make it hard for parents to get inside? Stairs and no automatic door openings make it extremely difficult (especially for those of us with strollers) to get inside!

Just because…
I have to admit I’m definitely a bit guilty of this. I guess deep down inside we all want to be a bit mysterious.

Coffee with Chloe’s mom – June 15th 2015 edition

15th June 2015

If we were sitting having coffee this week and catching up on life (basically our kids), here’s what I’d be telling you.

What I’m currently coveting
Anything that will make feeding baby easier is something I need and want (even if I don’t know if it’ll work). Apparently even the strongest of babes can’t lift this mat off the table.

What I’m loving
Who knew Ikea made such cool toys? These stacking cups are only $3.99. C loves banging them together!

What’s headed to the recycling bin
Cheerios everywhere because of this product. Snack-catcher it is not. Although it does buy me some time when someone is fed up of being in her stroller.

What I read this week on the Internet that was kind of cool
While I love being a mom I totally respect those who know they don’t want to have kids (and know they don’t before going down that road). Food for thought.

What Chloe’s eating
My Lovely Little Lunch Box’s banana cocoa muffins are where it’s at.

Books, books, books
It isn’t long, but C loves this pat-a-cake book. She even acts it out and tries to read it on her own.

Chloe’s jam of the week
Good Mistake by Mr. Little Jeans (We are on Spotify too!)

What to do if you happen to be in Toronto with kids
The Art Gallery of Ontario has a really neat hands-on learning centre for kids. It is great for all ages, even babies. You do need to buy a ticket to the museum, but $19.50 is a small price to pay when you need to get out of the house on a rainy day!

If my husband and I had a night out this week
Little Sister looks like it be a great date night. Actually anywhere that serves wine would be 🙂

Busy moms need quick solutions
I’m all about the wipes these days. Ole Henriksen’s wipes are perfect for waking you up after a sleepless night and also take your make-up off when you have time to put it on that is.

Rant of the week in 140 characters or less
The highchair is the bane of my existence. Someone needs to develop a self-cleaning one ASAP. Eating is messy business.

And just because...
This may make you tear up a bit.
